Song writing tips.................?

I really am wanting to try to create a song, with a guitar.Every time i have tried to write a song, i seem to make up the most stupid lyrics.Im trying to write one about my Grandpaw pasting away. People say play/write from heart,and i tryed i just sound really stupid. I need some good tips to hel me out, and be more creative.
