Fisher stereo (vintage) the only sound I get is a loud crackle or hum if you will.?

The stereo has the fuses on the back the front is aluminum. The speakers get the hum sound only when the fuses are pushed in. Someone can you tell me why I get that hum. There isnt the slightest bit of actual sound from the stereo just the hum.
