Legality of not allowing water bottles in school?

Alright, my school has banned water bottles, I was wondering, is this legal? Would it not be endangering the welfare of a child? Realistically, in court I would have to prove that the water in the drinking fountains is not fit to drink, correct? Can anyone cite some law or court ruling that supports them not being allowed to do this? Thanks
